Q: What are your rates?A: Basic rates are discussed in the client section of the site. You must be a site client to get our exclusive rates via the web. Create a client account at the login - it's FREE. Or if you do not wish access to our 'Client Section' you may call us (Click Here). However our rates are extremely competitive and we have several rate structures that will fit any budget. Q: How long does a song or jingle take to produce?A: Depends on the complexity of the project. Simple single instrument/vocal demos take 1 hour or less. Full Demos will take 4 to 8 hours per song. Jingles require creative time, approvals, and then studio production which is usually completed in a day. Q: I need to produce a long format audio book. Do you have voice-overs, editors, etc.?A: Yes we do and more! We have recorded, edited, and mastered dozens of audio books. We even have an audio book that was nominated for a Grammy! Some noteworthy audio books we have produced are: Clay Aiken, Johnny Cash, Max Lucado, Frank Peretti, C.S. Lewis, John MacArthur, Kathy Troccoli, Chuck Swindoll, Tim Roberts, and many, many others. Q: Has any major artist recorded at After 3pm Music / The Cutting Room:A: Yes we have - in fact you may be the next breaking artist waiting to be discovered and you may cut your first project with us. Here are a few names you may know: Melinda Doolittle (American Idol), Buddy Jewell (Nashville Star), Carolyn Dawn Johnson (Recording Artist), Heidi Newfield (Trick Pony Lead Singer), Katrina Elam (Recording Artist), and many, many others. Q: I have lyrics but need music written for them. Can you do that?A: Absolutely. Music composition is what we do! Of course we can co-write a song with you and then do a simple piano/vocal of the song. After that you may wish to produce a full demo of the song. Q: What is the difference between a 'demo' and a 'master'?A: Demo is short for 'demonstration' of what a final production may sound like. However our demos are recorded 'radio or record label' ready which means it is to the quality you would expect to be on the radio or good for record label consumption. Most folks that go to a professional studio do not have the tens of thousands of dollars as Record Labels do to record a group of musicians for several weeks and record vocals for a few months in order to get the 'perfect performance'. Studio technology has changed so much that getting a perfect performance is as much a 'mix/post' editing function as it is 'performance'. However our demos are performed by some of Nashville's finest studio musicians (we only use studio cats). Also another technical difference between 'demo' and 'master' is whether or not it is mass produced and sold to the general public (a master) or used as a 'demo' for promotional purposes. We go in-depth regarding 'The Song Production Process' in our 'Client Section' - look at the 'client login' and create an account. Q: Do you finance a project or take credit card?A: Yes we take all major credit cards. We also have an account with paypal if you prefer. We can also break-up payments over the time of the production. Q: Do you produce music videos?A: Yes we do! We have a dedicated studio for video production complete with Green Screen, lights, 3-Chip Camera, Scrims, and more. In our main studio we use Final Cut Studio which is a complete suite of video editing tools which uses Final Cut Pro (the Professional/Standard Film/Video Editors Software). Of course our recording studio is an excellent place to do a 'Sessions' style video and the Green Screen allows an unlimited amount of backgrounds to be added during edit. We also scout and do location shooting as well. So whether you have a song you have recorded elsewhere or with us we can turn it into a full fledged music video! Q: I need a corporate video - do you produce those too?A: That is the reason we invested in the Green Screen mentioned above. Of course we also do location shooting for corporate and other types of video. We have samples of corporate and music videos on our sample page. Q: What format do you use?A: We use Pro Tools 8 (the most current version) with plugs from Waves, Powercore, Auto-Tune, Native Instruments, Synthology, Digidesign and many others. Our computer is a Quadcore 2.66 ghz Intel Mac and the console is the Control 24 with a 240 point 1/4" patchbay. With our patching system we can also hard patch any other system for tracking if you wish to have it rented. For full details go to the 'About Us' page. Q: I have a home studio, will you work with my tracks to improve my production?A: This is done all the time. Home DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) have revolutionized the recording industry. And for those clients who are 'do it yourselfers' when it comes to the recording process this is a viable way to maximize the quality of your recordings and keep cost lower. The reasons for a home studio combining forces with a professional studio maybe the lack of a proper mix or tracking enviroment. The home studio may wish to record live drums, a horn section, or a complete live rhythm section (drums, bass, guitars, keys, etc.), but due to physical constraints of the home studio or the audio enviroment corrupted by lawn mowers, plane flyovers, dogs barking, noisy neighbors, etc. may make production difficult. Others live in areas of the country where great players or singers are hard to come by and they wish to have special overdubbs recorded at our studio (in Music City USA) and then shipped via internet to incorporate back in their DAW. Either way we can take any DAWs files and incorporate them into Protools, add the new production and then export them back to your DAW. Or you may wish for us to mix the session in our commercially tuned audio enviroment. Any combination is possible and can save you time in the studio. Q: Do I have to book an entire day to get a good rate?A: No - we have special rates that can be viewed in our 'Client Section'. Create a account in the client login section. Q: Can I use my own engineer and/or producer?A: Absolutely! Though our published rates include a 1st engineer we also have a 'studio only' rate so you can use any experienced Pro-Tools Engineer to record and produce your session. We also have a 2nd engineer on staff to help with set-up of your session at no extra cost. Q: Can I use my own musicians / singers?A: Of course! If all you need is studio time without the production services like musician referral, etc. that is up to you. We are here to serve your needs and are happy to do what is required to make your project all you wish it to be. Q: Do you have any other amenities?A: Yes we have a complete client lounge/greenroom. It has two comfy couches, a 32" flat screen tv, 120" movie projection screen w/5.1 surround, PS3, kitchnette, and full bath. We also have a studio office and video production/editing room with lights and green screen. The studio also has its own private two car garage so on those rainy days you'll never get wet! Also the musicians love the parking garage during load in on session days! No stairs or ramps to get in the studio from parking - all on the same level! We pretty much covered all the basis for your comfort and creative potential! Q: I am interested in having you produce a jingle for us - what is the process?A: We would be happy to talk with you regarding the process. In fact we go into great detail in our client section. As mentioned above create an account or login in the client section to the right. Q: Do you produce remixes (dance mixes, etc.)A: Yes we do! Remixes are a favorite for us. Q: Do you have rates that include lodging for out-of-town clients?A: Yes we do. We have many out of town clients and we offer in-house accommadations or can book a hotel close to the studio if you wish. Our location is a short 15 minutes from the Nashville International Airport and we offer free transportation from the airport. Call us 615.872.7177 for rates and details.
